Armed forces deployed across Bangladesh
The Bangladesh armed forces have been deployed across the country to aid the civil administration in maintaining law and order after the country's main opposition launched weeks of violent protests that disrupted life in the populous nation and killed scores. Helicopter capable OPV's to join Bangladesh Navy
A pair of Royal Navy Castle class offshore patrol vessels will join the Bangladesh Navyâ€™s fleet in 2007 according to various international naval magazines. The Castle class OPVâ€™s are capable of accommodating a helicopter up to the size of a Sea King anti-submarine and transport helicopters.
These ships have been designed with dual capabilities with the ability to carry out fishery protection and offshore patrols. Fitted with a sophisticated navigation and tracking system to locate and intercept other vessels.
Bangladesh Air Force to purchase 8 attack helicopters
The Bangladesh Air Force plans to purchase 8 new helicopters with ground attack helicopters in 2007. The Prime Minister, who also holds the defence ministry portfolio, mentioned in her final speech last month to the Bangladesh armed forces that the Bangladesh Air Forceâ€™s helicopter fleets capabilities will be increased.
It has been learned that the Bangladesh Air Force will most likely acquire Russian made Mi-17 armed helicopters and Bell helicopters from the United States.
